The Prop 65 statement is required by law here in California where we’re from. The warning is seen on products that contain ingredients that come from the earth, as these ingredients could contain very trace amounts of metals.
The warning scares and confuses a lot of people, but unfortunately it is the law, and in a way is great because it makes people dig deeper into what they’re putting into their bodies, wearing on their skin & using in their homes. The prop 65 warning is so common in the state of California, as it can even be found on lightbulbs and T-shirts.
The Prop 65 regulation is extremely strict. Our products are so very close to passing but sometimes are just over the testing limits, meaning we need to keep the warning on in order to remain compliant. Just for context, California has the strictest heavy metal testing in the world. All of our heavy metal testing passes the World Health Organization allowable levels. This is only required because we produce and sell in California.
Because we get inquiries so often on Prop 65, especially from our customers outside of California, we decided to take matters into our own hands and help people understand it a little better. We purchased and tested three organic spinach samples from top retailers here in California. We dried the spinach and sent samples out to a 3rd party lab for analysis on lead content. What we found was that more than one serving of any of these organic spinach samples bought from the produce section of these top retailers contained levels higher than the legal limit according to the prop 65 requirements.
Just another note, Organifi is also Certified USDA Organic - which requires passing strict testing for heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides & many other chemicals commonly found in the crops soils, as well as in the finished products. Our crops are routinely tested as well as every single batch of finished product to maintain our USDA Organic Seal!
